AEW Dynamite 15th April 2026 Recap
The show starts with Renee Paquette in the parking lot, she says AEW officials have been trying to make contact with MJF to let him know of the AEW World Championship match tonight against Darby Allin every hour of every day since Dynasty. A car pulls up and out steps MJF, Renee tries to get a word with him but MJF cuts a promo, he talks about all the guys he’s beaten as champion and how easily he beat Kenny Omega at Dynasty. Don Callis walks in and shakes his hand, they exchange pleasantries until Don apologises about Andrade at Dynasty. MJF asks what he means, MJF apparently didn’t know that Darby beat Andrade as he was preparing for his main event match on Sunday when it took place. MJF says Andrade isn’t main event material and says that Don owes him one. MJF goes to leave when Renee shouts at him, and tells him that Darby has chosen to have his World Title match tonight and that it’s happening right now.
In the arena, Darby’s music plays and Justin Roberts announces that the World Title match is happening right now. Darby gets a good crowd reaction in his home town, then MJF’s music plays and he says this match isn’t going to happen because he only found out three seconds ago, he says he nearly went an hour with Kenny Omega at Dynasty and has a bad back, he says he’ll sue everyone if they make him compete, he says Darby isn’t championship material. Darby grabs the mic from him and is emotional as he speaks, he says it only takes one night to drop the wrestling world on its head, if he’s not ready now then when will he be? He talks about climbing Mount Everest and starting his career 10 miles away from the arena, he says he’s going to climb to the top of this sport so ring the bell. MJF takes the mic and says they’re not ringing the bell. Bryan Danielson has a mic on commentary and says he’s heard from Tony Khan and Tony agrees with MJF that’s it not fair for him to wrestle with no notice, MJF celebrates on the top rope, Danielson continues that the match will be happening tonight in the main event so MJF has time to prepare. And if MJF refuses to compete he will be stripped of the World Title. Darby takes the mic and says he’s going to pin MJF tonight with a Headlock Takeover, he then throws himself into the guard rails at ringside as his music plays.
They show Tony Schiavone trying to interview Kenny Omega immediately after his Dynasty loss to MJF. Kenny doesn’t want to speak to him, and the camera follows him into the trainers room and Will Ospreay is there. They talk about how things didn’t go the way they wanted them to, Kenny questions whether he can win the World Title and Ospreay tries to motivate him, talking about how he came back to defeat Okada in New Japan when he questioned if he could do it or not. Ospreay talks about him not giving up on his dream of being AEW World Champion and Kenny shouldn’t give up on his dream either. They say they’ll have each other's backs and Ospreay says Kenny is his hero as he leaves. Omega says if he’s Ospreay’s hero then maybe he can do it. He asks the cameras to leave.
Tomasso Ciampa vs. Dezmond Xavier. Ciampa got on the mic during the match telling the fans to stop the bald stuff, he’s not Ricochet. Ciampa naturally won the match with a knee strike. Post-match, he cut a promo saying he wants gold and whether it’s Darby Allin or MJF he’s coming for the World Championship.
We see a video package of the MJF/Darby Allin rivalry going back several years in AEW, with footage of MJF knocking Allin out with the Dynamite Diamond Ring and pinning him with a Headlock takeover, as well as Darby climbing Mount Everest and having the AEW flag with him at the top.
Back in the arena, FTR and Stokely come out. Tony says Adam Copeland will be on Collision. Dax has a mic, he says there are a lot of fans online that are angry that they won again, he says the fans think they can relate to an underdog story, and says the fans are just losers, fat losers. He says Cope & Christian are losers who couldn’t get the job done at Dynasty. As long as FTR are champions they’ll never get a shot at them again. Stokely says he’s been told the fans are educated, fans chant “No Hoes” and he says he doesn’t need Hoes he’s got the AEW Tag Team Champions. He says the sickos apparently know about everything, he references the David & Goliath story and says FTR are Goliath and there are a lot of Wannabe David’s in AEW. He says he doesn’t think there is any competition left for them, he says whoever Tony Khan brings in, they will all fall to FTR. Cash takes the mic, he says he wants to pay homage to Cope and Cage, and says they want a moment of silence, he says for those of you with the benefit of flash photography we’re going to give you a 10 second pose. Cash says thank you Seattle you’ve been great.
TNT Championship: “The Jet” Kevin Knight © vs. Claudio Castagnoli. Apparently Knight started his career in Washington. Good match with these you as you’d expect, they had a messy spot on the top rope where Knight went for a Rana off the top but Claudio didn’t sell it correctly and he saved it by trying to lift Knight up for a Powerbomb, then went back up top while holding onto him, he turned the Powerbomb position into an attempt for an Avalanche Neutralizer but Knight fought out and went for a Frankensteiner but Claudio ended up elevating him off the top and hit a diving uppercut for a near fall. Claudio caught Knight from a Spring Board Cross Body and turned it into a back breaker. Knight won with the UFO Splash. Post-match he takes the mic, he asks the fans if they missed him, he says give it up for Claudio, he tells “Speedball” Mike Bailey not to take the Trios Title loss last week personally, he says he’s going to be watching tonight’s main event closely because Jet2Belts sounds 2Fly to him. He needs a sponsorship deal with Jet2Holidays.
They show highlights of Jericho vs Ricochet from Dynasty. Renee Paquette is in the ring and introduces “The Legendary Chris Jericho”. Fans give him a good reaction. Jericho has a red sparkly jacket and the fans sing along to Judas, it’s not a Canadian reaction but it’s still good. Renee says everyone is happy to see him and Jericho encourages the fans to cheer. Loud Jericho chant. Renee has a black leather jacket, it may be better than Jericho’s. Jericho says he lost at Dynasty because he was outnumbered 3 to 1, he says congratulations to Ricochet and on cue his music plays and he comes out on the stage with the GOA. He tells the crowd to shut up, the fans chant Bald at him. Ricochet says he respects Jericho even more after Dynasty, he says he had to take him out with his own move the Lionsault which he has renamed the Ricosault. Ricochet says Jericho did pretty good but not good enough. Shut the fuck up chant from the fans. Ricochet says Jericho should quit while he’s ahead. Ricochet says Jericho likes to reinvent himself, how about being the guy who gets his ass beat every week by The Demand. Jericho questions the name “Ricosault”, he inserts the word bald into his sentences as he talks to him, at first the fans laughed, but Jericho overdid the balds and called GOA "dumb" and "ugly". Jericho challenges Ricochet to face him one on one. Ricochet says he knows what Jericho is trying to do. Jericho says Ricochet is too scared and bald to face him one on one. Ricochet tells GOA to let him face Jericho one on one and not to help him no matter what. Jericho gets the better of Ricochet and GOA run in to help Ricochet and they triple team Jericho. Jericho tries to fight back but to no avail. GOA double team Jericho and the fans boo. Ricochet hits the Ricosault and they celebrate over the fallen Jericho.
They show Renee Paquette speaking to Okada and Don Callis after his Dynasty match. Takeshita walks by and Don calls him back, he asks him what happened out there, and Takeshita says it was an accident “Oops” and says to Okada “I’m so sorry” in an insincere way and walks off.
Will Ospreay vs. Hechicero. Don Callis comes out and speaks Spanish before the match and introduces Hechicero, I’m sure at one point he said Super Nintendo, and Tony says the same on commentary. Ospreay was selling injuries from his match with Jon Moxley before the match started and had his left arm and shoulder taped up. Hechicero is the CMLL World Champion, the belt looks like a classic Intercontinental title, I like it very much. Don Callis is on commentary and Lance Archer is guarding him, there were multiple “Fuck Don Callis, Fuck Ice too” chants during this one. Ospreay was selling his neck throughout and Bryan Danielson questioned why Ospreay was wrestling in this, which is quite something after what he did during his wrestling career. Excalibur calls Hechicero a “Submission Wizard”. Wasn’t Chris Jericho one of those in the past? Bryan puts over Ospreay being a great technical wrestler. They show Marina Shafir sitting in the crowd watching the match. Hechicero swung Ospreay around and hit a backbreaker that was unique.Hechicero put Ospreay in a surfboard submission. Hechicero hit a Guillotine on Ospreay and went for a pin but Ospreay got his foot on the bottom rope, Don Callis went mad and started arguing with the ref. The doctor went into the ring to check on Ospreay while the ref held Hechicero back. Bryan says the match should be stopped if he can’t finish the match. Don Callis says he doesn’t trust the doctor and questions his credentials. Hechicero wrapped his legs around Ospreay’s head and put him in an armbar. Hechicero puts Ospreay in an abdominal stretch, and continues to dominate Ospreay. Ospreay fights back and gets a few near falls. Hechicero went for a cross arm breaker, then turned it into a triangle choke, which Ospreay countered into a Styles Clash and hit a hidden blade to get the win. Don Callis says “time for Plan B” Tony asks what does that mean, Callis says “You’ll see”. Ospreay stares down Marina Shafir after the match. Don Callis distracts him, and Mark Davis attacks him from behind and hits a Gutwrench Piledriver to lay out Ospreay.
They show Willow Nightingale’s promo from Dynasty aimed at Kamile.
Renee Paquette is on the stage, she gets interrupted by Thekla who is walking through the crowd, she says Renee looks good (how does she know? She’s so far away from her?) but no one paid to hear her flap her lips. She says the toxic spider is in the house. She cuts a promo about beating Jamie Hayter at Dynasty, she says this industry is filled with dumb bitches. On cue, Alex Windsor comes out shouting “OI, OI, OI” She says Thekla didn’t beat Jamie Hayter, she challenges Thekla to a match right now. Thekla says she said dumb bitches and she magically appears, the crowd laughed. Thekla says don’t blame her for her best friend losing to her at Dynasty, or her husband losing at Dynasty as well. Windsor says she’s the New Japan Strong Women’s Champion. She says Thekla is a “Silly tit” for getting fired from Stardom in Japan. I’d say it worked out pretty well for her really. Thekla says Windsor should “chill her balls mate”, she said Japan can’t handle Thekla, and no one in this building can handle her. Windsor says how about I handle you right now. Thekla says how about noooooooooo. Windsor challenges her to a World Title match on Collision and Sky Blue and Julia Hart try to jump her from behind but Windsor fends them off with the greatest of ease, she then goes into the crowd and Thekla bails.
Backstage promo from Moxley with the Death Riders, he says Ospreay doesn’t surprise him, Marina enters shot and Moxley asks her how Ospreay looked, she says he looked rough. Moxley says maybe he has a talent for seeing how the dominoes fall. He says he doesn’t take pleasure in the suffering of others, he prefers light over darkness, but you don’t get one without the other. He talks about facing Nick Wayne on Collision, he says he doesn’t know much about him, so he says surprise him, he says this is for adults so leave his mom in the back and laughs.
TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale © vs. Kamille. Apparently Kamille had been competing in American Gladiators. Excalibur says Willow is defending the TBS Championship for the 3rd time in 3 weeks. Commentary says Kamille has only lost 1 match in her AEW career. Willow started strong but Kamille worked over her arm. Bryan puts Kamille over as a former bodybuilder who won strongman competitions. Bryan says he didn’t realise Kamille would work over a body part like she is on Willow, which is a ridiculous comment when she attacked her arm and injured it at Dynasty, he sounded like such an idiot. Kamille looks inexperienced to me, she did a Mahistrol Cradle at one point for a two count. Willow sold the arm injury like a pro. My issue is they just did this with Ospreay earlier in the show and Excalibur questioned if Willow has wrestled too many matches recently. Willow fought back and hit the pounce, followed up by a Cannonball in the corner for a two count. Kamille hit a leg lariat which was a bit like the Rough Ryder for a two count. She went for a cross-arm breaker but Willow blocks it then turns it into a pin. Willow got the win with a Backslide. Not the first time she’s won with that recently.
They cut to backstage and Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida, Shida is wearing a red bra over the top of a black turtleneck, it’s like she’s paying tribute to Christian Cage. She says what a great win for their friend Willow Nightingale, and then starts speaking in Japanese. She said her and Kris Statlander made a great team last week on Collision and they’ll be having another match this week on Collision. Statlander doesn’t get a word in.
They show MJF walking through the backstage area.
Then they go to Renee Paquette walking with Darby when they run into Sting. Darby asks him if he has anything for him, Sting says “No, you already know what to do, go out there and do it”. They fist bump, Darby says “It’s Showtime”. Sting says “NO, it’s YOUR TIME now go and take it” as the fans in the arena chant Darby. Sting repeats that it’s Darby’s time.
Justin Roberts introduces the main event, and there’s 11 minutes left of the show. Well they’re clearly not going to have a real match. Darby’s music plays and he walks out and has his family in the front row, massive crowd reaction for him. MJF’s music plays and he comes out wearing a jacket that says “BIG HEBREW” on the back. As ridiculous as that name is, I’m starting to like it. Excalibur says MJF’s win at Dynasty over Kenny Omega will have an asterisk against it. MJF pushes the World Title in Darby's face as he walks around the ring with the belt. Justin Roberts does the introductions, crowd chant for Darby. Bell sounds to start the match. “Fuck him up Darby, fuck him up” chants from the fans. MJF asks for a time out, and says he forgot about the Dynamite Diamond ring in his trunks and hands it to referee Aubrey Edwards, while she was distracted he hit a low blow on Darby, he shouts Headlock takeover but Darby pushes him away, Max has to put the breaks on to prevent a collision with Aubrey, and Darby hits him with a low-blow of his own. Darby pulls him up and hits a Scorpion Death Drop, goes up top, hits a Coffin Drop, then a second, then a third, and finally a fourth. He pulls MJF up and does a Headlock Takeover and pins him for the three count and the AEW World Championship. The match lasted 2 minutes. The babyface roster came out to celebrate Darby’s win, he shook hands with the Young Bucks, confetti fell from the ceiling and Excalibur put him over as an AEW original. Sting then came out to a great ovation, Tony says this is the biggest moment ever in AEW history.

Don Callis is the bearer of bad news for Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Does anything good ever happen in the parking lot of a wrestling show?
The Wonderful Review
Good on Darby for winning the title, but that wasn’t the way to do it in my opinion. Excalibur said earlier that there would be an asterisk against MJF’s win over Kenny Omega at Dynasty, there should be one here too. A 2 minute World Title match, after MJF and Omega went over 30 minutes at Dynasty is a weird one for me to take. In the last month Darby’s matches have primarily consisted of him being absolutely destroyed but coming back to win against the odds with roll-ups, so this match was a massive surprise to what we’ve seen from him. I know in the recent past MJF got jobbed out similarly to Brody King, but that was an eliminator match and designed to make King a believable challenger to then challenge for the title. I don’t like the way they did it here, it takes away I think from Darby, and makes Omega look stupid. Omega couldn’t beat MJF in 30 minutes, but Darby did it in 2 minutes.
MJF will most likely get a rematch and he has the argument that the title match was sprung on him at the last minute. I hope Mark Sterling is with him next week to file a lawsuit.
I don’t know where they go with Darby to be honest. I hope he actually shows that he can wrestle proper matches, rather than just wacky hardcore matches that go over the top. He can have the rub from Sting, but he needs to prove himself as a top wrestler in my opinion.
The rest of the show was underwhelming, which is why I’ve recapped this show in little detail compared with normal. I hope they can turn it around next week. I won’t be recapping Collision either this week.
